Before smartphones took over, it was so difficult to capture a high quality picture. You'd have to get a fancy DSLR, a massive editing software, and high intensity hustle to come up with the best photographs.
Well, if you're a beginner and you're very overwhelmed with the idea of an advanced photography session, you're in luck! Because now, not only can you take great photographs using a phone with a great camera, you can also render and edit them on the same device as well. Makes it 10x easier, trust me.
1. Balance Your Shot Using Gridlines
One of the easiest and best ways to improve your mobile photos is to turn on the camera's gridlines. A photographic composition principle that says an image should be broken down into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, so you have nine parts in total.
2. Focus On One Subject
Many of the best photos include just one, interesting subject. So when you take a picture of one, spend some extra time setting up the shot.
Always remember, the subject shouldn't fill the entire frame. But be sure you tap the screen of your smartphone to focus the camera on your subject — that'll help to ensure that it's focused and the lighting is optimized.
3. Find Different Perspectives
Try taking pictures from an unusual, unexpected angle. It always leaves the viewers surprised and in awe. It tends to create an illusion of depth or height with the subjects. It also makes the image stand out.
Try taking a photo directly upward and playing with the sky as negative space or you can just take a photo from a downward angle.
4. Play With Reflections.
There's something so beautiful when you the sky reflected in a body of water. There's a reason why we love seeing that — our eyes are drawn to reflections and it's eye pleasing. So look for opportunities to play with them in photos.
Some options include - puddles, larger bodies of water, mirrors, sunglasses,
5. Symmetrical Shots
Symmetry is defined as "a vague sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion and balance." Pictures that are symmetrical can be extremely eye catching and aesthetically pleasing — it's also one of the simplest and most compelling ways to compose a photo.
Basically, creating an image that can be divided into two equal parts that are mirror images of each other.
6. Use Natural Light
Take advantage of the sources of natural light you can find, even after dark. This gives you a chance to play with shadows, like in the second image below, or create a silhouette with other ambient sources of light, like traffic and surrounding buildings.
Remember, natural lighting will always give out great photographs due to minimal noise and overexposed, negatively altering colors.
These are some tips in mobile photography that definitely helped me out and i'm sure they'll do the same for you! Go ahead, click some awesome photos, edit them with passion and last but not least, have fun. :)
